Pets at Home has invested in cultivated meat producer Good Dog Food as part of a £3.6 million ($4.5M/€4.1M) seed funding that the firm announced earlier in May.
The London-based company said the British retailer will provide them with strategic assistance in bringing cultivated meat to the market.
Owen Ensor, CEO at Good Dog Food, told GlobalPETS that the next step is moving toward commercialization, which will see them conducting nutritional analysis of their meat and feeding trials.
“As the UK’s leading pet care business, they [Pets at Home] have deep expertise and knowledge of the UK pet market and could be instrumental in helping us transform food for our pets,” he says.
Pets at Home recently labeled its investment in sustainability as highly important for the company. “If we can replace some of the meat and fish used globally in pet food with a more sustainable alternative, that would be a real step change for the industry,” points out COO Lisa Miao.
